The Bader Cup – 2010. Winners announced!

The Bader Cup 2010 Grand Final has been played out on the Alamos Golf Course in windy but sunny and spring-like conditions.

Many congratulations to the eventual winners, husband and wife team, Denis and Kate Thompson from Bedale Golf Club. Thanks to them and to all the finalists for taking part and for making the Final such an enjoyable and memorable occasion for all concerned.

The Douglas Bader Foundation is, again, extremely grateful to all our sponsors for the event, MONARCH AIRLINESGOLFE DO MORGADO and the TIVOLI HOTEL LAGOS. Without their extraordinary and ongoing generosity, the event and the invaluable funds  it raises for The Douglas Bader Foundation simply wouldn’t be possible.

We are also indebted to John Southwick, the organiser of this great tournament, and his partner, Pat, for his phenomenal efforts in creating and running such a successful and enjoyable competition for yet another year. Without John there would be no tournament and we are enormously grateful for the generous contribution the Bader Cup raises annually to help the Douglas Bader Foundation to continue its valuable work on behalf of amputees and other disabled.

Very grateful thanks to you all.

THE BADER CUP 2010 – GRAND FINAL

AN ARTICLE by SUE SPENCER

All British Clubs should enter Bader Cup

The Bader Cup is such a great golf competition that it deserves to be better known.  What other charity golf competition gives you the chance to play in an all-expenses-paid final in the Algarve sunshine on a fine course like Alamos at Morgado do Reguengo near Portimao?

Winning pairs from the twelve UK regional finals, as well as last year’s winners Craig and Carol Lewis from Palleg, competed in a Greensomes Stableford on Alamos on November 10.  Perfect conditions helped winners Denis and Kate Thompson from Bedale Golf Club score 45 points.  ‘We were amazed to win our regional final, let alone the actual Cup!’ said Kate.

Denis and Kate Thompson, from Bedale Golf Club, won the 2010 Bader Cup

This is the 23rd year of the Bader Cup, which to date has raised £300,000 for the Douglas Bader Foundation, helping people with missing limbs and other disabilities.

It only costs £8 per couple to enter and the more UK clubs that take part, the more money is raised.

See www.golfworldwideholidays.com for an entry form for the 2011 competition
