Bader Braves News

Mexican Gulf oil disaster spreads good fortune for Bader Braves.

Following the terrible disaster in April 2010 when the Deepwater Horizon oil well exploded in the Gulf of Mexico a consortium of oil producing companies (Exxon Mobile, Shell, Conoco Phillips & Chevron) came together in the shape of Marine Well Containment, to develop a plan and create specialised emergency equipment designed to deal with a similar tragedy and to minimise the effect in the unlikely event of it happening again throughout the oil producing regions of the world.

A considerable amount of the fabrication contract for this new equipment is being carried out by the specialist company, Isleburn Ltd. at their plant on the Cromarty Firth at Invergordon. At this mammoth plant (everything seems surprisingly “BIG” in the oil industry!!) safety is an absolute priority and as part of a safety incentive a financial provision is made which is reduced each time there is a safety issue during the manufacturing process with any residual amount being made available for distribution amongst local charities as selected by the total workforce.

As can be seen in the picture, the Foundation have been fortunate in receiving a fantastic donation of £5000 from this fund to go towards the development of the Bader Braves programme in the region. Moreover, the board of the manufacturing company, Isleburn Ltd, themselves chose to further support the project by adding a further £1500 bringing the total to a magnificent £6500!!

As is also evident from the photograph the presentation was made in the open air at the start of the recent gales in Scotland causing not only recipient Keith Delderfield of the DBF to have a very “bad hair day” but representative of Marine Well Containment, Exxon Mobile’s Dale Reid, to lose his completely!!!

We are indebted to each of the companies who are part of the Marine Well Containment consortium, Isleburn Ltd and the whole workforce at Invergordon for selecting our charity and their very generous support of our work.
