The Bader Cup 2012

THE BADER CUP, a Mixed Greensome Stableford competition is now recognised to be Europe’s largest National Mixed Golf Tournament and, thanks to the hard work, dedication and support of those involved, annually raises a considerable amount of money for the Douglas Bader Foundation.

THE BADER CUP

THE BADER CUP has the reputation of being one of the most enjoyable and prestigious amateur golf tournaments in Europe. It is an annual event, open to golfers from all over the British Isles.

The competition was started in 1987 by The Douglas Bader Foundation President, Lady Bader.

“Douglas and I enjoyed many hours of playing golf together, indeed it was whilst playing that we first met. It is gratifying therefore, that much of the Foundation’s success can be attributed to golfers from around the British Isles who have competed in our Bader Cup tournament.

Thanks to the initiative of Tournament Director, John Southwick, the Bader Cup will be celebrating its Jubilee year in 2012 – an extraordinary achievement – and we are indebted to him for his loyalty and leadership”

Every golf club in the UK is invited to enter, after which the golf clubs organise a qualifying round to determine their winners. The tournament is open to all members including juniors.

The golf club qualifiers proceed to an all expenses paid day out at one of the twelve regional final venues throughout the UK. From there the twelve regional final winners are invited to the Grand Final in Portugal.

The Douglas Bader Foundation is blessed with three wonderful and generous sponsors for the Bader Cup: MONARCH AIRLINES who fly all the competitors out to Faro; TIVOLI LAGOS HOTEL a 4-star hotel that accommodates all the finalists and, new sponsors for 2012, the wonderful ONYRIA PALMARES BEACH & GOLF RESORT (nominated in “Best Golf Course Resort in Portugal” in Today’s Golfer Travel Awards 2011), where the finalists will play on the Lagos and Praia Courses.

The 2012 Grand Final will take place between 4th-8th November.

Donations do not always bring a tangible reward as pleasurable as the Bader Cup, and in 2011 £18,000 was raised for the Douglas Bader Foundation golf programme.  No wonder more and more golf clubs are entering.

Introduction

The Douglas Bader Foundation is a charity organisation, formed in honour of Sir Douglas Bader in 1982 by family and friends, many of whom had flown side by side with Douglas during World War 2. Douglas was honoured in 1976 with a Knighthood for his contribution and work on behalf of the disabled.
